This is how you grow the Mushroom House
This is how you grow your mushroom house
The absolute easiest way to grow mushrooms is through our own Mushroom House. In this guide, we go through how to start up your Mushroom House, but also how you can grow in a grow bag with any mycelium and substrate.
To begin with
What the mushroom house and our fast-growing mycelium have in common is that they can both be grown in grow bags. It is one of the fastest ways to grow mushrooms, and you can easily follow the process day by day.
The cultivation bags you grow in are not ordinary plastic bags, they are specially made specifically for mushroom cultivation and have built-in air filters for maximum growing conditions.
The coolest thing about growing in grow bags is that every day you can see how the mycelium grows in the bag and watch how the mycelium literally eats the substrate in its own microclimate.
This is how you grow in your Mushroom House
In the house you will find the following accessories:
- Mycelium
- Straw pellets
- Cultivation bag
- Instruction
Do this:
1: Empty the mushroom house of its contents and place the grow bag in the sink or somewhere where water spills won't do anything.
2: Add 1.9 liters of boiling or room temperature clean water. We recommend boiling for better mycelial growth.
3: Fold the bag so that it does not stand open and let the bag cool while the straw pellet absorbs the water. Water may come out of the white air filters on the grow bag - this is completely normal.
- If you use boiling water - wait at least 6 hours
- If you use room temperature water - wait at least 20 minutes
4: Gently crush the mycelium in the mycelium bag before opening it, then add the mycelium to the culture bag and mix around as much as you can so that the mycelium spreads.
5: Place the growing bag in the mushroom house
6: Fold the top of the grow bag over itself several times until there is no air space left and squeeze out as much air as possible.
7: Seal the bag with a bag clip, tape or rubber band and close the housing.
8: Place the house in any place where there is plenty of oxygen and the house is not hit by direct sunlight.
Clear!
What happens then?
The mycelium will now start to spread in the growing bag and after 2-4 weeks the block will have turned white from the mycelium that has grown into the block.
After the block has been fully colonized, it's time to cut a cross in the bag and after 1-2 weeks, fungus will start to grow out of the hole.
Spray water morning and evening at the incision after you cut open.
How to grow with fast-growing mycelium in a grow bag
Growing with fast-growing mycelium is very easy and is an extension of our classic mushroom house. All you need is substrate, mycelium, and a grow bag. You can buy everything in our webshop and you basically follow the same steps as when you grow your mushroom house.
Depending on which mushroom you want to grow, you will need different substrates. All mushrooms like different things. Some like straw pellets, others like oak pellets, and some want birch!
You can easily find the type of substrate to use for the specific species you want to grow on the product page for each individual fast-growing mycelium. These substrates are the ones we recommend at Svamphuset, but you can of course try growing on other substrates.
Good to know:
- The water you are going to use can be boiled the day before to eliminate any bacteria in the water. Let it cool to room temperature and then pour into the grow bag where you have the straw pellets and mycelium.
- The white stripes on your grow bag are air filters, they can let some water through at the beginning when you fill with water. This does not mean there are holes in the bag, so don't worry!
- Mycelium is a living organism. Sometimes it takes longer or shorter than expected. If your cultivation does not start, wait a week or two. If you have any questions, you are always welcome to contact us.
Last but not least, be sure to read through the Mushroom House's golden rules for mushroom cultivation .
Now you are ready to grow mushrooms in a grow bag, good luck!
