How to grow mushrooms on sticks
Growing mushrooms on logs is the method that will produce the most mushrooms for the longest time. In addition, over time you will witness how the mycelium does its main job in nature: Breaking down material!
What do I need to grow on stock?
It's all very simple. You only need mycelium and fresh logs, preferably hardwood. Drill holes in the log and inoculate with either fast-growing mycelium or with the mushroom house's mycelium plug.
This is how Mycel plugs work
Mycelium plugs are completely ordinary wooden plugs that we at Svamphuset have, through a series of processes, allowed mycelium to start eating into. When you then take mycelium plugs and knock them into a log, the mycelium will immediately understand that there is more to collect and start eating into the log directly.
It usually takes one year from grafting to first harvest. But once the mushroom begins to produce crops, it will do so several times a year for up to ten years. How many harvests there are depends on the thickness of the log.
When you tap a dowel, you first drill a hole with an 8 mm drill bit . Then you tap in the plug and seal with cutting wax.
Mycelium plugs are a classic method that has been used for a long time in mushroom cultivation.
This is how Fast Growing Mycel works
The Mushroom House also offers another newer method that we call fast-growing mycelium. The principle is the same, the only difference is that the fast-growing mycelium grows on sawdust instead of on a wooden plug. When you push the sawdust into the log, you get more mycelium into each hole, which results in faster and stronger growth than with mycelial plugs.
You can explain why fast-growing mycelium grows faster than mycelium plugs in long layouts, but in order not to confuse unnecessarily, we round it all off by saying that mycelium plugs are easier to work with, while fast-growing mycelium gives a faster harvest.
When using fast growing mycelium you will need a mycelium injector, an 18mm drill and a 6mm drill. First you drill a deep hole of 6 mm and then you drill a chamber of 18 mm. In the chamber, you push fast-growing mycelium with a mycelium injector.
Does that sound complicated? Not at all! And don't worry, you will receive instructions sent with you when you order home both mycelium plug and fast-growing mycelium.
In conclusion, we invite you to check out the Mushroom House's golden rules for mushroom cultivation to get the best possible conditions. Good luck!
