The mushroom house's birch chips come from cleanly sorted birch trees ( Betula pendula) that grew in Skaraborg County. Birch chips are intended for mushroom cultivation in cultivation beds outdoors and indoors grow bag.
Birch chips are suitable for most of our species and are a very good "all around" substrate for mycelium. Can be advantageously combined with alder chips, oak pellets and/or straw pellets.
If the birch chips are to be used for cultivation outdoors, it is enough to fill the pit or pallet collar where it is thought to grow mushrooms with 5 cm of wood chips at the bottom, and then 1-2 cm of mycelium well spread over the entire surface. Then you fill in with another 5 cm of birch chips. Repeat this until the mycelium is gone, or until you have reached the height you want on the cultivation. Always finish with wood chips on top. Water abundantly for 1 hour with a water sprinkler in the evening for three days to get a good moisture content on the birch chips. You can also soak the birch chips before filling them in the pit, and alternatively boil them to make them thoroughly moist beforehand. If you boil it, make sure it cools down completely before adding the mycelium.
When growing in grow bags, we recommend that you first soak the birch chips for 24 hours. Drain the water through a strainer, and turn on new water. Then boil the birch chips in the new water for 20 minutes. Then you pour off all the water and let the chips dry spread out on a table. When the chips are relatively dry on the outside, pour them into large grow bags. Pressure cook the bag with the birch chips at 15psi for 90 minutes. Allow the pressure to drop to zero and the temperature inside to drop to room temperature. After that, you can inoculate the bag with any mycelium of your choice. Feel free to do it in front of a fume cupboard or in a still air box.
5 kg is just enough for 5 large grow bags.
Moisture content in the material is approx. 6-8%.
