Who wouldn’t want to harvest mushrooms from March to November? This kit includes three different species that tend to fruit (produce mushrooms) at different times of the year. Grey Oyster Mushroom fruits early in spring and throughout the fall, Pale Oyster Mushroom typically fruits throughout the summer, and Shiitake fruits in spring, summer, and fall. Perfect for those who want to harvest mushrooms throughout the entire season. This kit is enough to inoculate/seed 4-6 meters of logs. Using mycelium plugs is very easy: Drill holes in the log, tap the plugs into the holes, seal with wax, and you’re done. After that, just wait. Once the mushrooms start to grow, you can harvest mushrooms for several years from each log, depending on the species, log size, and choice of tree species. The kit includes everything you need to get started, and you also save 94 SEK compared to buying everything separately.
The kit includes:
- 100 Indian Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus pulmonarius) mycelium plugs
- 100 Grey Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) mycelium plugs
- 100 Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) mycelium plugs
- 225g drill hole wax
- 1 Svamphuset specially made drill for mycelium plugs
- 1 wax applicator
Pale Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus pulmonarius) produces good, ongoing harvests with large clusters and pale fruiting bodies. Pale Oyster Mushroom has a delicate and mild taste, often described as slightly sweet with subtle anise or almond-like tones. The texture is tender and slightly chewy, making it versatile in various dishes or as a meat substitute. This mushroom is a very reliable producer that colonizes and fruits quickly, and is a great mushroom for both beginners and experienced mushroom growers.
Grey Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) is one of our most productive mushroom species. It yields large harvests with solid fruiting bodies. It tends to fruit (develop mushrooms) in spring and fall. The taste is rich umami with a nutty note, and it has a soft, meaty texture that fits well in most dishes.
Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) is a nutrient-rich mushroom that produces medium to large, brown, umbrella-shaped caps. The taste is strong, buttery, salty, and just the right amount of umami. Shiitake fruits (develops mushrooms) throughout the summer into early autumn. It tends to produce generous harvests and is an excellent mushroom for both beginners and experienced mushroom growers. Shiitake colonizes logs quickly and is one of the most reliable producers of all mushroom species.
1. Choose fresh logs without damage to the bark.
2. Drill 4 cm deep holes with 8-10 mm diameter in a zigzag pattern with 10 cm between the holes.
3. Plug with the mushroom house's mycelium plug.
4. Seal the holes with borehole wax using the wax applicator For borehole wax; melt it beforehand in a pan through a water bath and dip the wax applicator in the melted wax which you then "dab" on the holes once or twice.
5. Soak the logs for one to two days or moisten well with a water sprinkler.
6. Place the logs standing or lying down in a shady place protected from the wind.
7. Soak/water the logs as needed to maintain moisture content.
