One of the world's most cultivated mushrooms. 1 kg of mycelium grown on organic rye to inoculate bulk substrate in cultivation bags, mainly oak pellets. 1 kg of grain spawn is enough for approx. 7 kg of dry bulk substrate (oak pellets). Which becomes 7 large grow bags of approx. 3kg each after you add water.
Shiitake takes a long time to fully colonize, and then it may take time for the mycelium to create primordia, or early stages of fruiting bodies. But the one who waits for something good! Growing shiitake from scratch requires patience, a little more experience, and preferably a fruit chamber/fruit box where you can control the oxygen content and humidity. But harvesting Shiitake from your very own growing block is probably among the best available for us mushroom growers.
As the Shiitake takes time to fully colonize the bulk substrate in the grow bag, you should ideally sterilize the grow bag containing the substrate before adding the mycelium. To do that, you need a pressure cooker that can handle at least 15psi. It is also possible to simply pasteurize the substrate with boiling water, but the risk of contamination increases slightly due to the longer colonization time than for many other species we sell.
For those of you who don't quite feel ready to grow shiitake from scratch, you can take a look at our ready-made growing blocks where we have done all the steps for you. The only thing you need to do is to create an optimal external environment for the shiitakes so that the mushrooms will be nice, numerous and large.
Orders placed before 11.00 a.m. are usually shipped the same day. We deliver with DHL and deliveries usually take 2-3 working days. Fungal mycelium is resistant but cannot withstand high temperatures. If the climate exceeds 25, we wait for cooler temperatures before sending the packages in order for your products to arrive to you in the best possible condition.
